MEET THE 2012 PEAR FAIR QUEEN CANDIDATES AND OUR REIGNING 2011 QUEEN

2012 Pear Fair Queen Candidates

Virginia Doherty

I am 16 years old and will be a senior at Delta High School.  I have been incredibly active during my years at Delta High – this past year I served as junior class president, drama club president, and ski and snowboard club treasurer and this year I will serve as the Associated Student Body president.  I have been active in Future Farmers of America serving as an officer as well as participating in various speaking competitions.  I have also played on Delta’s volleyball and track teams.

After graduation I hope to attend either Occidental College or University of Southern California to study urban and environmental policy.

The Delta has been a huge part of my life and I hope to return after college to continue my involvement giving back to the community.

Dalia Lopez

I am 17 years old and will be a senior at Delta High School.  I moved to the Delta in the middle of third grade – I love the Delta and have found a caring and loving community.

As I begin my senior year I am excited to work with others in new ways to provide help to those in need through some creative community service projects.  Something that I am particularly committed to is to help girls find ways to share their experiences, both good and bad, with others, helping them find self confidence and ways of coping with the challenges of their high schools years.

After graduation next year I hope to attend John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City – I have an interest in criminal justice, particularly behavioral analysis.  I am sure that my experiences in my close knit community will help me find success in my future.

Paloma Magaña

I am 17 years old and will be a senior at Delta High School.  I have been active during my high school years by being part of the Delta Cheer Squad, Future Farmers of America and Varsity soccer.  I have also been very active with community service – I have volunteered at Cover the Kids, a program with Sacramento County, a program that advocates health care for children and volunteered at Delta Elementary Charter School as a teacher’s assistant.

After graduation I plan to attend Cosumnes River College for two years with the goal of transferring to the University of California to study psychology.  I am proud to be from the Delta and am proud of my Mexican heritage.

Claire Schauer

I am 17 years and will be a senior at Delta High School.  Throughout my high school career I have been active in sports (volleyball, soccer and track), the Delta Chapter of Future Farmers of America (2012-13 President and other offices), student government (Senior Class President) as well as other clubs, both school sponsored and private.

After graduation I hope to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to major in Environmental Management and Protection.  After college I hope to return to the Delta to work with local business to protect the Delta’s environment.  Having been born and raised in the Delta, I love and want to protect this special area of California.

Thank you, Joanna Parkhurst, for being a great 2011 Pear Fair Queen!
